Araya 7X Rims And Hutch BMX Hubs – Details
Chrome Araya 7X BMX rims laced to Hutch Mag TI hubs for sale. Or is it Hutch TI Mag as the internet seems to vary. This is a wheel set suitable for any high end Hutch or other vintage BMX build.
The chrome Araya 7X rims are for a 20″ BMX and have 36 holes. They were new old stock before being built up. There is no pitting or peeling chrome on the rims. The Araya decals are original. There is no brake rub because the BMX I used these on was only ridden for a few minutes and the braking ability if the Dia Compe MX900 brake calipers was not that great anyway. Doubt they would every cause brake rub…
The Hutch Mag TI hubs sort of fell into my lap and I didn’t have these on my original bike. Definitely not enough in the BMX budget for those kind of hubs and made do with Chair sealed hubs built up from all the ones that had issues at the local bike shop.
As with other things using magnesium, air is not kind to the surface. The nice silver finish is now a dark colour. Have a look around and you will see this is common for these hubs. Not something that can be addresses whilst laced up and as I can’t build wheels myself, I wasn’t going to pull them apart to give them some love.
The decals are original. They are not perfect, although still good for the age. Check out the photos where I tried to show the condition.
Now for the memory tester. Not sure which if the nuts is original, if any. The fronts differ from the rears. The collars look correct and I gave them a bit of a clean up.
Axles threads could do with a bit of a refresh too. Nothing major and just a bit tight in spots. Of course none of this matters if they are just sitting on a display BMX!
No I can’t separate the hubs and rims. That’s something you are welcome to do and sell the parts you don’t want. They are boxed up and ready to ship by a friend when I am travelling.
